The editors of the Methodist DeBakey Cardiovascular Journal extend their warmest thanks to William A. Zoghbi, MD, MACC, and Ahmed M. Soliman, MD, for their leadership in developing this issue on digital health in cardiovascular care.

William A. Zoghbi, MD, MACC

Dr. Zoghbi is the Elkins Family Distinguished Chair in Cardiac Health, chairman of the Department of Cardiology at the Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center, and professor of medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College and the Institute of Academic Medicine.

After completing his residency and cardiology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine, Dr. Zoghbi joined the faculty in 1985, where he practiced for 20 years. In 2005, Dr. Zoghbi established the Cardiovascular Imaging Institute at Houston Methodist, a unique entity where all cardiovascular imaging modalities are located and integrated for enhanced patient care, education, and research. He was appointed chair of the Department of Cardiology at Houston Methodist in 2016.

Dr. Zoghbi is a renowned leader in cardiology, echocardiography, and cardiac imaging. He has served as the president of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and American Society of Echocardiography, represented the ACC and global cardiovascular community at the United Nations and World Health Organization, and co-chaired the Global Task Force for Cardiovascular Disease for the World Heart Federation. He has developed new techniques to evaluate heart function and valve disorders without resorting to invasive procedures and is known for his research on ischemic heart disease, myocardial function and hibernation, and for developing echocardiographic techniques to evaluate valvular disease. Throughout his career, Dr. Zoghbi has authored more than 300 original publications and has been invited to lecture on his work at every major cardiology conference around the globe. He is a much sought-after mentor and has trained over 100 cardiology fellows in advanced cardiovascular imaging, many of whom now hold positions of leadership worldwide.

Ahmed M. Soliman, MD, FACC

Dr. Soliman is the associate medical director of the cardiology clinic at Houston Methodist DeBakey Cardiology Associates and cardiovascular outpatient rotation director for the cardiology department at Houston Methodist

Dr. Soliman earned his medical degree from the University of Alexandria, Egypt, then completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Texas in Houston and his cardiovascular disease fellowship at Houston Methodist. He joined the Houston Methodist faculty in 2018. Here, he has taken the lead in exploring digital health and advancing telemedicine and remote monitoring services, even hosting a webcast series, DeBakey CV Live: Digital Health and Telemedicine, on the DeBakey CV Education YouTube channel. Dr. Soliman was recently selected to the ACC leadership academy cohort IV, and in 2020, he became a codirector of DeBakey CV Education's annual Cardiovascular Fellows' Boot Camp.
