The editors of the Methodist DeBakey Cardiovascular Journal sincerely thank Thomas MacGillivray, MD, and C. Huie Lin, MD, PhD, for their leadership creating this issue on adult congenital heart disease.

Thomas MacGillivray, MD

Dr. MacGillivray is the Jimmy F. Howell, MD, Endowed Chair in Cardiovascular Surgery, chief of the Division of Cardiac Surgery and Thoracic Transplant Surgery, and associate medical director of the Walter Tower Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit at Houston Methodist Hospital. His clinical and research interests include surgery for adults with congenital heart disease, thoracic transplantation, and aortic root and aortic arch reconstruction, and he is board certified in surgery and thoracic surgery.

After earning his undergraduate and medical degrees at Tufts University, Dr. MacGillivray completed his general surgery residency and cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. He continued his training with fellowships in congenital heart surgery at Boston Children's Hospital and fetal surgery research at the University of California San Francisco. After completing his training, he joined the cardiac surgery staff of Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was the surgical director of the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program, the codirector of the Thoracic Aortic Center, and the surgical director of the Mechanical Circulatory Support Program. He joined Houston Methodist in 2017.

As a national leader in cardiothoracic surgery, Dr. MacGillivray is the treasurer of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and serves on the Board of Directors of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the Thoracic Surgery Foundation. He is also on the editorial board of the Annals of Thoracic Surgery.

Dr. Lin is the director of the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program at Houston Methodist Hospital and is board certified in adult congenital heart disease, adult cardiovascular medicine, and interventional cardiology. He is passionate about innovating minimally invasive interventions for adult congenital heart patients to optimize and improve their quality of life. When not treating patients, Dr. Lin focuses on education, training new cardiologists as the associate program director for the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship Program and working with the DeBakey Institute for Cardiovascular Education & Training (DeBakey Education) to teach health care professionals from around the country.

C. Huie Lin, MD, PhD

After earning his bachelor's degree at Yale University, Dr. Lin completed his MD/PhD in vascular biology at the University of Virginia. He went on to complete an internal medicine residency at Beth Israel Deaconess and fellowships in cardiology, adult congenital heart, and interventional and congenital interventional cardiology at Washington University in St. Louis and St. Louis Children's Hospital. Dr. Lin founded the Houston Methodist Adult Congenital Heart Program in 2012.

Drs. Lin and MacGillivray work together on outreach and education for patients with adult congenital heart disease as course directors for DeBakey Education's annual Adult Congenital Heart Symposium in Houston, Texas. We are grateful for their guidance in applying these important topics to this journal.
